What is Speak Up?

• A community engagement initiative designed to strengthen our schools.
• A series of 300 community conversations that will give the public an opportunity to offer input and opinions about public education in Huntsville, Madison and Madison County School systems.

What is the goal of Speak Up?

• To develop a jointly owned strategic plan for each school district.

What will come out of Speak Up?

• Content from the community meetings will be used to develop a jointly owned strategic plan for each school district to guide our schools. This shared vision will identify opportunities for action and key resources for each school system.

Who is leading this effort?

• The Schools Foundation is the organizational lead for this effort.

Who is involved?

• The entire communities of Huntsville, Madison, and Madison County are encouraged to participate in this effort.

Why is this work important?

Our schools need us. Our communities have identified three top priorities:
• Schools- Enhance the quality and support growth
• Roads- Capable of sustaining growth
• Workforce- Meet current and future requirements

Why now?

• We have a crisis.
• Funding issues threaten to overshadow the focus on teaching and learning, and it's only going to get worse over the next five years.
• Our schools need us now.

• Dr. Terry Davis, Superintendent, Madison County Schools: "We need the support of the community to do what we know needs to be done."
• Dr. Dee Fowler, Superintendent, Madison City Schools: "If this work will be done in three phases, can you begin in Madison City?"
